Guardian: Hiking in Crete among top-10 family adventure holidays in Europe

Guardian includes hiking in Crete among the top-10 family adventure holidays in Europe.

The popular British newspaper suggests family-friendly adventure holidays that answer the call of the wild – but are perfectly doable for a wide range of ages.

Specifically, about hiking in Crete, it proposes staying at the Achlada Mourtzanakis Residence, a remote, family-friendly eco-residence, 20 miles west of Heraklion, set amid rocky slopes and ancient olive groves in great hiking territory. The heritage village of Achlada is a short walk away and there are marked trails in the hills. The closest beach for swimming and snorkelling is 10 minutes’ drive away. There are bikes for hire, and horse riding, canyoning and caving. The 4,000-year-old Minoan Palace of Knossos is within easy reach too.

The studio cost starts from €85 an night based on 3-4 sharing.

The rest of the list as follows:

Cycling, Austrian Tyrol

Zipwiring, canoeing and abseiling, Scotland

Coastal horse riding, Ireland

Rock climbing, Spain

Canoeing and camping, Sweden

Bushcraft camp, Wales

Surf and yoga retreat, Portugal

Back to nature, Slovenia

Sea swimming, Turkey
