First Hot Air Balloon Base in Greece to open in Kalamata on May 15, 2016

A hot air balloon base will start operating in Kalamata, Peloponnese on May 15 with the first flights of the Olympic Balloons company.

The balloon base will be at the football field of the old slaughterhouse area, on the city’s west coast, according to Kalamata Mayor Panagiotis Nikas. The mayor has granted the place until October 30, when the field will start being used for football games, as it has already been tendered by the Kalamata municipality.

Olympic Balloons will offer daily flights until that date. Nikas called balloon flights “extremely interesting,” both for locals and visitors, while noting that “the particular activity is on offer for the first time in Greece.” He said that he has gladly offered the space for servicing tourists.
