The castle where Count Dracula lived has been turned into a hotel and has already gotten more than 26,000 likes on Facebook — before even opening.
The whimsical building is tucked away in the heart of Transylvania, a region made famous by Bram Stoker’s 1897 horror story Dracula. However, it’s a far cry from coffins, silver daggers, and an overpowering stench of garlic.

The architect-designed rural hideaway is owned by two Romanian singers. They built it over two years, using only natural and organic materials — including clay, straw, wood and sand. It features 10 rooms, and includes a restaurant that will serve locally-sourced organic food.

The property boasts sweeping views of the Carpathian Mountains, and the 10 bedrooms have a simple, rustic charm. The owners say they haven’t painted or varnished inside, and they’re planning to heat the building with wood fires.

Castelul de Lut Valea Zanelor will open later this year. It’s already proved a hit with tourists, with many flocking to the area for a stickybeak.
