Tourism Minister Kountoura to ruling Syriza MPs: Camping has rules

Camping has rules, Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura on Friday said in an interview with the Athens Macedonian News Agency’s radio station Praktoreio 104.9 FM.

Kountoura replied to an issue raised by 38 SYRIZA deputies who asked for removing bans over camping. The minister explained that there is no EU country where camping is not permitted without rules.

“Our ministry considers that rules are necessary for the protection, the security and the prevention of pollution and we have to respect them,” Kountoura underlined.

Moreover, the minister stressed that “we are breaking all the records and we are investing in theme tourism for the development of local economies and the promotion of new Greek destinations.”

“The most important issue of our strategy is the extension of the tourist season, which we achieved in 2016. For the first time, the season tourist period started in March and ended in November,” Kountoura said.
