Greek hospital surgeons reattach woman's arm severed in car accident

Surgeons at Athens’ “KAT” hospital were able to reattach a woman’s arm after it was severed in a car accident in Crete island earlier this week, the hospital said on Saturday.

The 20-year-old patient was transferred by helicopter from Heraklion city right after the accident with her arm cut off from right over the elbow. The procedure, which took place on Wednesday, is the result of the cooperation between the Departments of Hand-Microsurgery-Upper Arm and Vascular Surgery.

“KAT Hospital, which is on duty on a daily basis, has a long tradition and experience in dealing with complex and difficult traumas. At the same time, successes like this highlight and demonstrate the great potential of the Public Health System,” hospital manager Nikolaos Kontodimopoulos noted.

KAT specializes in orthopaedics and trauma and has won a reputation as the pre-eminent hospital for accidents and fractures.
