Snowboarder dies after avalanche at Vasilitsa ski center in Grevena, Greece

A 30-year-old man died in hospital after he was buried by an avalanche while snowboarding at the Vasilitsa ski center in Grevena, northwestern Greece, on Friday, ANA reports.

The young man and four friends from Greece and abroad had walked to a slope in the center, which was closed for the day, and were snowboarding to the bottom when an avalanche occurred, burying him in the snow.

The manager at local Grevena Hospital, Pantelis Alexiadis, said the hospital had been alerted and doctors there spent an hour trying to resuscitate him unsuccessfully.
