Request to film BBC mini-series at ancient Sounion site to be re-examined on Tuesday

The production company filming the BBC mini-series “The Little Drummer Girl” has prepared a new proposal to present to Greece’s Central Archaeological Council (CAS), in order to get permission to film at the Sounion archaeological site in Attica. The CAS will examine the new proposal when it convenes next Tuesday, on April 3, ANA reports.

Amending its original proposal to CAS, which denied permission to film last Tuesday on the grounds that it would be too disruptive for the running of the site, the production company will suggest that there should be only morning shoots, instead of same-day filming over 12 hours, from 7:00 in the morning until 7:00 in the evening.

The council’s decision to refuse permission, passed by a slim majority, was later strongly criticised by the Secretary General for Media Lefteris Kretsos, who noted it was an example of the problems plaguing Greece, and the Greek Film Centre, which said it created obstacles to Greece’s efforts to attract major film productions to the country.
