Sports Tourism: First Greek man to win North Pole Marathon (video)

Argyris Papathanassopoulos became the first Greek person to finish first at the North Pole Marathon on Sunday, according to greekreporter.com.

Braving the cold with frost on his face, the Greek runner was obviously overwhelmed by the adverse circumstances of the race.

Papathanassopoulos cut the finish line holding the Greek flag, with the race lasting 4 hours, 34 minutes and 36 seconds and the thermometer at the northernmost point of the globe recording -33 degrees Celsius.

“It’s almost unbelievable. You know, I’m Greek, so this is not the right place for me. It’s like an Eskimo running in a desert race!” the Greek runner told Reuters, right after his victory.
