Sports Tourism: Via Egnatia Run to be held on Sunday in Alexandroupoli

Over 1,000 runners are registered to take part in the the 3rd Via Egnatia Run in Alexandroupoli, organised by the Regional Prefecture of Evros in northern Greece on Sunday, on a parallel track to the famed Roman highway the race is named after, ANA reports.

The run will include an official half-marathon of 21,097.5 meters (330 runners registered), popular run/power walking of 5,000 meters (400 registrants), and the 800-meter race, run by children and the disabled separately (265 children, 70 disabled registered), according to Dimitris Petrovits, deputy regional director of Evros and president of the organising committee. The runners in the 5,000-meter run join the half-marathon runners 5 km before the end of the route, and may either run or power-walk it.

Registration for the race opened on March 2 and closed on April 24.
