Picturesque Leipsi island off Patmos becomes popular wedding destination

Leipsoi, the small picturesque islet near Patmos in the Dodecanese, has become a popular wedding destination for Greek and international couples.

International surveys show record over 50 percent of couples wishing to marry abroad are looking for a destination that combines an idyllic setting and preconditions for a romantic honeymoon. Also, 47 percent of couples identify romance with the natural beauty of an exotic island.

Based on such studies, the Leipsoi (or Lipsoi or even Lipsi) municipality has been trying to make the island a romantic destination for couples wishing to marry in such a setting. The island advertises itself as an ideal location for an idyllic wedding in an exotic, romantic setting that would not cost the newlyweds a fortune.

Instead of five-star luxury hotels and modern but expensive amenities, Leipsoi offers plenty of natural beauty, with crystal-clear waters, golden sand, picturesque villages and unforgettable sunsets.

Greek couples elect Leipsoi for their wedding for all of the above. Now the word has spread abroad and more and more foreign couples book for their wedding and honeymoon in Leipsoi.
