Britain’s Prince Charles met with Theodoros II, the Eastern Orthodox Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa as part of his visit to Ghana.
The heir to the British throne and his wife, Camilla, arrived in Accra on Friday and were greeted by a very warm welcome from hundreds of children lining the streets and waving miniature Ghanaian and UK flags.
The meeting with Theodoros II, who is also currently visiting the Western African country, was held in a very cordial atmosphere and lasted more than thirty minutes. The Patriarch briefed Prince Charles on the efforts of the Patriarchate to educate young children in Alexandria and the rest of Africa.
The Patriarch also referred to the historical links of the Patriarchate with the United Kingdom since the early years of the 17th century, when King Charles I of England donated books of unique cultural and religious significance to the Patriarchate Library of Alexandria.
Prince Charles also focused on his efforts to support the education and progress of African children. Moreover, he recalled his delightful memories from his historic visit to Greece back in May.
At the conclusion of the meeting, he accepted the invitation of the Patriarch to visit Alexandria, expressing his desire to visit the city that Alexander the Great established in 331 BC.
