European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Phil Hogan on Monday received an honorary doctorate from the Athens University of Agriculture, during an event was held at Costis Palamas building in Athens, ANA reports
“Phil Hogan was one of the main architects of European agriculture policy. The development of digital agriculture policy bears his personal stamp… The Athens University of Agriculture, which is the third oldest in Greece and celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2020, is going to implement major digital skills programmes in collaboration with the appropriate ministries,” noted the rector of the university Spyridon Kintzios. He ended his speech with Hogan’s quotation “Let’s produce more, using less”.
On his part, Hogan analysed European agriculture policy and referred to the incentives that should be given to young people to get involved with the relevant programmes. “I feel especially honoured by this distinction. Your university has substantially contributed to the improvement of agriculture in Greece. Your exports are rapidly increasing. In Greece, as in Ireland, the sectors of agriculture and tourism play a key role in growth. I hope you continue in this progressive direction,” Hogan commented.
