In an exclusive interview with the Greek Reporter from the red carpet at the 76th Golden Globes in Beverly Hills on January 6, the Chief Content officer of Netflix, Ted Sarandos, revealed the company’s plans to film of its next productions in Greece.
Sarandos discussed Netflix’s films and series which were nominated for this year’s Golden Globes Awards, and expressed his vision to promote entertainment around the globe.
Concerning the goal of penetrating in the non-English-speaking markets, Sarandos emphasized his company’s efforts to produce films and television outside the boundaries of Hollywood, using as an example the successful series ”Casa del Papel”.
When asked about the chance of seeing an Athens version of the series, Sarandos joked, noting that ”I’m going to lobby for Samos!”
Sarandos, speaking later about new young creators, be they writers or actors, urged them to keep on pursuing their dreams by continuing to write and act. The chairman noted that ”there has never been a better time to be a story teller, as the world of story-telling is democratized, with people being able to find bigger audiences on small budgets.”
When Anastasios Papapostolou from the Greek Reporter asked him about the possibility of Netflix creating some of its content in Greece, Sarandos responded by pointing out that Netflix is “ramping up production all over the world”. He added that ”we’re definitely coming to your way soon”, describing Greece as ”the hub of story-telling in the world for centuries” and promising that ”we’ll be there for sure”.
