Greek government plans to expand horse-racing concession contract

Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos on Tuesday presented an amendment tabled in Parliament that alters and adds a concession contract for the exclusive right to organise and operate mutual horse-racing betting services, ANA reports.

“The horse race should not be closed down, leading the 3,500 families working there to poverty,” Tsakalotos argued, adding that the amendment does not entail any damage for the state while the 3,500 will continue working.

The finance minister said the purpose of this legislative initiative was to expand the capability for new projects and to upgrade installations in the area to make it more attractive and boost its turnover, adding that both OPAP and Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF) agreed with the amendment.
