Thessaloniki reached its highest spot in the past decade in terms of conference tourism, protothema.gr reports.
According to data from the International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA) announced by the Thessaloniki Convention Bureau (TCB), Thessaloniki gained ten places in 2018 compared to 2017 and was ranked 93rd in the world ranking.
More specifically, for 2018 it organized a record number of 29 conferences, with a total of 5,770 delegates.
Twenty-nine conferences were held in the city, of which 19 hosted between 50 to 149 participants.
In terms of the European rankings, Thessaloniki moved up to the 53rd place from 59th in 2017.
Paris occupied the first spot in the global rankings, with 212 conferences in 2018, followed by Vienna, Madrid, Barcelona, and Berlin.
As far as countries are concerned, Greece in 2018 was in 25th place, 5 spots up from its 31st position in 2017, with the United States of America, Germany, and Spain leading the list. Germany, Spain, and France hold the top positions in Europe, with Greece occupying 14th place.
