For the first time in history, there is now a permanent doctor on duty at the Acropolis, Greece’s most popular tourist attraction, greekcitytimes.com reports.
“We are pleased with the immediate placement of a doctor at the archaeological site of the Acropolis. On his first day on duty, the doctor looked after three patients, who were workers at the archaeological site and one of whom had suffered a stroke,” said the Cultural Ministry.
“We are pleased that the archaeological site will have a permanent doctor, both for the benefit of the workers on site and for thousands of visitors who arrive here each day.”
The doctor will be at the Acropolis each day from 10 am to 6 pm and during the summer period and on extremely hot days there will also be ambulances at the site, in case of an emergency.
According to media reports, the decision was made by the new Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, who has made it a priority to ensure the health and safety of those who visit the Acropolis in Athens.
