The Greek government will introduce tax incentives to prompt motorcycle drivers to buy and use helmets, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Thursday, during his visit to the Infrastructure & Transport Ministry, according to ANA.
Mitsotakis said “I will not accept any deviation from the obligatory use of helmets on motorcycles,” and added that his government placed high priority on road safety. “It is unacceptable to have so many people die in traffic accidents,” the premier said, noting enforcement and introduction of new laws, including “how we teach new drivers, the quality of our roads, and, obviously, the very strict enforcement of the traffic regulations code.”
Speaking on urban transport in Athens and Thessaloniki, he said he expects the ministry leadership to “do whatever they can to increase (Athens) bus schedules, and do the same for the buses of Thessaloniki.”
VAT on motorcyclists’ helmets is reduced to 13 pct from the current 24 pct, was announced on Thursday, after a meeting of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis with the government’s financial staff, and after his pledge during a Thursday visit to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport for tax incentives related to the use of helmets by motorcyclists.
