HALKIDIKI – Greece is well-known for its sailing and though Halkidiki might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of sailing in Greece, it should certainly be on your list.
CEO World magazine listed 10 reasons why Halkidiki is a great destination for sailing. The clear, warm waters were at the top of the list of reasons followed by the local beaches, including Kallithea on the northeast coast of the Kassandra Peninsula.
The scenery was another reason to sail to Halkidiki, CEO World reported, encouraging readers to “sail around Kassandra to admire peaceful villages with fishing boats in their harbors… raise your sails around Sithonia to marvel at wooded hills dominated by Mount Itamos,” and head for “Athos for unique views of monasteries by the sea or atop cliffs.”
Also noted were the “long sailing season” from about April-November, and “winds are generally light, and you won’t have Meltemi winds getting in your way,” CEO World reported.
The calm sea, landscapes, summer sun, the romance and freedom of sailing, and the lack of crowds, especially when chartering a sailing yacht and visiting the more remote beaches of the area, were also listed in the CEO World report as reasons that make Halkidiki an ideal sailing destination.
