His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America officiated over the Divine Liturgy of the feast of the Three Hierarchs at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Manhattan.
The Liturgy was offered for the students, principals, and teachers of the Archdiocesan Greek-American Schools of the New York Metropolitan Area. The Schools represented included: The Cathedral School, the Greek-American School of Zoodohos Peghe Church, the A. Fantis Parochial School of Sts. Constantine and Helen, the D&G. Kaloidis Parochial School of Holy Cross, the St. Demetrios Greek American Day School, and the William Spyropoulos School of St. Nicholas in Flushing.
Upon the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy Archbishop Elpidophoros addressed the students both in Greek and English on the life and works of the Three Hierarchs and the importance of learning and the notion of Paideia, as well as their Greek Orthodox faith and Hellenic heritage.
Following the Liturgy, young students of the Cathedral School presented a short but emotionally moving program of narration, poems, songs, and hymns about the Three Hierarchs and Greek Letters. His Eminence concluded the celebration with the cutting of the traditional Vasilopita for the teachers and students with the coin of blessing going to the William Spyropoulos School.
Present at the Liturgy were the Consuls General of Greece Dr. Konstantinos Koutras and of Cyprus Alexis Phedonos-Vadet.
