More women awarded PhDs than men for the first time in Greece since 2015

Some 1,685 new doctorates (PhDs) were awarded by Greek universities in 2019, most of which (28.5 pct) were awarded in the health and medical sciences, the National Documentation Center (EKT) reported on Friday, ANA records.

The second most popular sector included PhDs in natural science research (24.6 pct), followed by social sciences (22.4 pct).

Lower percentages were registered in engineering and technology (16.1 pct) and the humanities (13.5 pct). Agricultural sciences registered the lowest number of PhDs, with only 2.9 pct. 

EKT keeps an archive of all doctoral theses since 1985. Over 45,000 of them are available for free non-commercial use online at www.didaktorika.gr.
