Audiences worldwide are talking about the two films presented on demand this month by the Hellenic Film Society USA. The Greek films, romantic drama MATIA APO NYXTA (Eyes of Night), and the comedy GUINESS, are available now through January 2.
MATIA APO NYXTA, directed by Pericles Hoursoglou, is a gripping drama about three people searching for love and connection. Not widely seen in the U.S. since its initial release, the film features Vangelio Andreadaki in an award-winning portrayal of a woman betrayed by the man she loves.
GUINESS, directed by Alexis Kardaras gets its title from the Greek word “gkinia” meaning bad luck. The plot centers around a down-on-his-luck gambler desperately searching for buried treasure. The closer he gets to the prize, the worse his luck gets. Can the love of a woman help him turn his life around?
“With movie theaters closed, we turned our attention to online presentations,” said Jimmy DeMetro, president of HFS. “On the first Sunday of every month we present a new program of carefully selected films and make them available online worldwide for the entire month. Audience response to this month’s films had been especially positive.” Films are shown in Greek with English subtitles.
