The bodies of two mountain climbers were recovered along a slope of Mt. Olympus late on Thursday after the pair fatally injured during an avalanche on Greece’s highest peak, naftemporiki.gr reports.
The two men were identified as physicians at a public hospital in the central city of Larissa. Another climber in their party, who was unharmed, first notified rescue crews of the incident.
The city’s Medical Association expressed its “ineffable sadness” and said they were an anesthesiologist and an intensive care pathologist “who exercised their favorite sport”. The loss of two-valued scientists is particularly felt at the front lines of the pandemic, it added.
