The first Greek university to reach the top 200 in international rankings, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens sits at the 180th spot on Webometrics’ ranking of 12,000 universities around the world, according to greekreporter.com.
A Project of the Spanish National Research Council, Spain’s biggest public research body, The “Ranking of Web Universities” measures a university’s online presence along with the influence its published research has in academia.
Greek University in the top 100 in Europe
The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, also known as the University of Athens, is one of the largest in Europe with more than 69,000 registered students.
In the rankings of European universities alone, the University of Athens reached the 73rd spot.
During last year, the University of Athens has moved up 53 notches on the international ranking, from 233 to 180.
The next Greek university on the list is the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, which ranks at 205th internationally and 86th in Europe.
The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich sits at the top rung of the ladder amongst all other universities in Europe, and the tenth internationally.
According to Webometrics’ ranking, the University of Washington in the US has the most vibrant online presence and the widest reach in terms of research on the planet.
