So far, only public health workers in Greece will be required to get COVID-19 vaccinations or be put on unpaid leave until the pandemic ends, but Greek teachers – many said reluctant to inoculated – could be next.
Teachers now must present a certificate of vaccination or a negative diagnostic test (rapid test or PCR) to return to the classroom, according to an amendment submitted to Parliament for a vote, said Kathimerini.
But Parliament reportedly is looking at making full vaccinations a mandate, the report said, although Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has been reluctant to take on the big voting bloc of public workers even though the virus has surged.
If teachers don’t present the documents of vaccination or PCR tests they will be barred from going into schools and other educational facilities they will be suspended and won’t be paid.
