Ecumenical Patriarch meets with the Greek Prime Minister in Athens

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met in Athens on Wednesday with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and thanked him for his messages of support during the recent floods in Greece.

The PM said the spiritual leader of Orthodox Christians worldwide was among the first to speak about climate crisis repercussions internationally.

Mitsotakis and Bartholomew discussed developments in the Middle East, while the premier expressed his concern over the safety of the Christian population in the Holy Land. He also revealed the government had contacted the Israeli authorities to protect the Agios Porphyrios Monastery in Gaza from attacks by the Israeli Armed Forces.
