Council of State discusses relocation of Mount Parnitha casino to Marousi again

Greece’s Council of State (CoS) reopened discussion on Monday on the controversial relocation of Mount Parnas (Parnitha) casino to Maroussi, a northeastern suburb of Athens, ANA reports.

The reason cited by the highest administrative court of Greece for the new discussion, announced on May 13, is the hospitalization of a Council member, Dimitris Vandoros after a serious traffic accident. Vandoros remains in the hospital.

Four injunctions against the casino’s relocation are calling for the cancellation of a presidential decree (36/2023) that approves the urban redesign plan and other details on the use of land in the area of Dilaveri at Maroussi (officially, Amarousion).

Fighting the decree are municipalities, associations, and residents of Maroussi and neighboring regions. Local agencies and residents of Maroussi gad gathered outside the CoS on Monday as the discussion reopened.

During Monday’s meeting, the plaintiffs tabled new environmental reports in which they claimed the casino’s relocation would unduly burden the area.

Mati discussion
In the second case also examined by CoS Section V on Monday, plaintiffs have called for the cancellation of a presidential decree (June 7, 2022) that greenlights a special urban plan for the fire-ravaged coastal towns of Mati, Nea Makri, Rafina, and Marathonas where 104 people died in July 2018.

A total of 93 residents of the East Attica areas are protesting the plan, along with a holiday-building cooperative and a landscaping association of landowners.
