The procedures for the operation of a Go Cart track by the company KARTODROMIO E.E. within the settlement of Karterides in the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos are progressing.
Specifically, by the decision of the Regional Unit of Lassithi, the minimum distance is reduced to 67 m. from 150 m. of the track location from facilities and areas that require special acoustic protection.
According to an inspection carried out by the competent service of the Region, the nearest house in the settlement is located to the west-southwest of the installation plot at a distance of 96 m. in a straight line, while a church is located to the west-northwest at a distance of 67 m. in a straight line. Olive groves are interposed between the activity that is being planned and the houses – the church. Within a radius of 150 m. there are no other facilities and infrastructures that constitute sources of noise. The elevation difference of the installation plot from the continuous part of the settlement is approximately 20 m.
As stated, among other things, in the relevant decision, the project operator must ensure that dense tree planting with tall tree species from the native flora is added along the boundaries of the plot, especially in its Southwestern part, which is closer to the continuous part of the settlement and the nearest house, as well as in whichever direction a newer house is built, to reduce noise.
Also, the activity will not operate during quiet hours, while in the event that a house or any other activity is built at a distance closer than 67 meters, the licensing of this specific activity will be reviewed. It is noted that the project operator must ensure, prior to the construction and operation of the project, the environmental licensing of the Go Cart car track.
