The municipality of Tilos aims to promote cycling tourism. To this end, the municipality has directly assigned consultancy services to a company specialized in the subject.
The aim of the action is to define a network of cycling routes in combination with the necessary interventions for its creation. These interventions are planned to be carried out through the placement of appropriate signage regarding bicycle traffic, i.e., regulatory, hazard, and informational for vehicles and cyclists, and informational signage at the starting points of the routes with information regarding their characteristics and at critical points, such as intersections, with directional information.
Initially, data will be collected regarding the geometric and functional characteristics of the road network of the settlements of Livadia, Mikro Chorio, Megalo Chorio and Agios Antonios, their provincial connecting road, the roads connecting the beaches, sights and other tourist destinations with the main road network of the island, i.e. the routes that have particular tourist interest and are suitable for bicycle users.
As part of the action, bicycle tours will be carried out, among other things, in the settlements and tourist destinations and sights that will be indicated for recording the geographical trace and characteristics of the routes, recording the routes and points of interest on video, as well as the qualitative assessment of the road network.
In addition, a map will be created in printed and digital format with the network of cycling routes and information regarding their characteristics, such as length, longitudinal gradient, rolling surface, degree of difficulty, travel time, etc.
The map will also include destinations and points of interest, proposed signs and their placement locations, as well as equipment and/or facilities necessary to promote the use of bicycles, such as bicycle parking and bicycle repair stations.
