Sailing experience available to people with disabilities in Chania

Today, Wednesday, March 12, 2025, the Venetian Port of Chania is hosting a special event, giving people with disabilities from selected organizations and institutions, as well as their companions, the opportunity to live a unique experience at sea. With free three-hour excursions on the catamaran Lo Spirito di Stella – the first fully accessible sailing vessel to travel around the world – participants will enjoy the magic of sailing without restrictions.

The initiative is implemented by the Social Policy Department of the Social Protection Directorate of the Municipality of Chania, in collaboration with the Wheels on Waves Around the World program, promoting equality and inclusion. The aim of the event is to give people with disabilities the opportunity to experience the freedom of the sea, breaking down barriers and prejudices.

In addition, beneficiaries of the Creative Employment Center for the Disabled of the Municipality of Chania will participate in the action, while the public will have the opportunity to visit the catamaran during its stay in the port. The boat will be open for visits from 9:00 to 10:00 in the morning and from 17:00 to 19:00 in the afternoon.

The Wheels on Waves Around the World initiative proves that physical and social barriers can be overcome, promoting the values ??of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
