Ioannina, a reference point for digital nomadism

A two-day conference focusing on innovation, sustainability, and people

With a rich program and interesting discussions on digital nomadism, brain gain, and the strengthening of responsible tourism models, the 3rd WORKFROMGREECE.GR Summit, which took place on April 4 and 5 in Ioannina, was completed. The organization was carried out in collaboration with the Innovation and Digital Economy Hub and the C.Ioannina Cowork Community.

The conference was hosted on Friday, April 4, at the “D. Hatzis” Cultural Center, with speeches and interactive sessions that highlighted the city’s potential as an emerging hub for innovation and remote work. Of particular interest were the interventions of digital nomads living in Ioannina who shared their daily lives and their experiences of working remotely in Greece.

The Summit was opened by Nikos Diamantopoulos, General Manager of Marketing Greece, and Tasos Koutlas, Co-Founder of the Innovation and Digital Economy Hub, who emphasized the importance of synergy, the exchange of know-how, and the creation of a common vision. Mr. Diamantopoulos underlined that digital nomads are a specialized and dynamic audience that can contribute decisively to the strengthening of responsible tourism models, while Mr. Koutlas noted that innovation in the city draws strength from the connection of the university, local entrepreneurship, and the startup ecosystem.

In her opening remarks, Deputy Minister of Tourism Anna Karamanli congratulated Marketing Greece for the initiative, stating that Greece has all the resources to become a leading destination for digital nomads, provided that all stakeholders cooperate and that infrastructure is continuously upgraded.

Greetings were also delivered by Mr. Vasilios Gorgolis (Deputy Governor for Environment), Christos Tatsis (Deputy Mayor for Commerce, Development, Entrepreneurship, and Tourism), and Spyros Sourelis (President of the Hoteliers Association of Ioannina Prefecture).

Walking tour of the historical business of Ioannina – A combination of past and future

The second day of the conference, on Saturday, April 5, was dedicated to the identity of Ioannina. Through an organized Walking Tour in the historic center of the city, participants had the opportunity to get to know the historical business of the region firsthand. The action was carried out in collaboration with the Small Business Institute of GSEVEE and highlighted the continuity of business tradition with modern innovation.

The conference was coordinated by journalist Maria Akrivou, while the program also included presentations by Androniki Kalfa (Marketing Greece) and Lotus Vrijma (Avnea), discussions on the exchange of know-how and extroversion, and the final discussion with the participation of digital nomads who shared their experiences of life in Greece.
