8th Ioannina Half Marathon: A two-day celebration of sports, participation, and social contribution

The 8th Ioannina Half Marathon is scheduled to take place on May 10 and 11, an event that has now earned its place in the national racing calendar and in the heart of the local community. With the co-organization of the Ioannina Runners’ Association and the participation of numerous organizations, this year’s event is expected to surpass all previous participations, while strengthening its role as an institution of sports, extroversion, and thematic tourism.

The racing program begins on May 10 with the children’s 1,000-meter race at 5:00 PM and continues at 5:30 PM with the 10,000-meter race. The next day, May 11, the action begins at 09:00 with the 21-kilometer Half Marathon, followed by the 5,000-meter race at 09:50. At 11:30, the 1,000-meter race for people with Special Needs starts, reinforcing the social dimension of the event.

The Ioannina Half Marathon is not just a competitive event, but a multi-level project with clear goals: promoting sports and health, encouraging children to get to know sports, strengthening the integration of people with disabilities, promoting the city as a tourist destination, and creating a positive experience for all participants.

The benefits for the local community are expected to be multiple. The Region of Epirus demonstrates in practice its interest in supporting sports initiatives that promote the region, while at the same time achieving financial support through increased traffic and overnight stays. Non-profit associations are substantially strengthened, as the organization actively supports their work and actions.

Beyond the competitive component, the Half Marathon offers, among other things, an ideal opportunity to get to know Ioannina: a city with a rich history, unique architecture, and natural beauty. Lake Pamvotida, the picturesque alleys, and historical sights compose a setting that enchants every visitor.
