With its eyes on India and the enormous prospects offered by this market, Ioannina is making a dynamic opening in the field of international cooperation, tourism, and cinema. The occasion was the recent visit of the Indian Ambassador to Greece, Rudrendra Tandon, who made a series of contacts in the city, exploring possibilities for cooperation between the two sides.
The focus of the discussions was on tourism, with particular mention of the interest of Bollywood producers in choosing the region for filming films, but also the possibilities of developing contacts in the field of entrepreneurship and cultural exchange.
The choice of Ioannina is not accidental. The natural beauty, cultural identity, and the constantly strengthening profile of the region as an emerging tourist destination are now attracting the interest of international film professionals. A typical example is the case of an Indian producer who recently shot a film in the region, highlighting through his lens the special physiognomy of Epirus.
During his visit, the Ambassador was informed about the extroversion strategy followed by the region, its infrastructure, and comparative advantages, while he was given a tour of emblematic points of cultural and natural interest. The discussions highlighted, among other things, the prospect of attracting Indian tourists, the exploitation of the potential of the University of Ioannina for academic exchanges, as well as the strengthening of business cooperation through the chambers.
Particular emphasis was placed on how Epirus could be included in the film map of India, paving the way for productions that will internationally showcase the landscape, culture, and hospitality of the region.
With the first bridges already built, Ioannina is now claiming an active role in an international field of exchange, which promises benefits for tourism, the local economy, and the global image of the region.
