Aiming to highlight initiatives that promote sustainability, innovation, social impact and successful public-private partnerships in sports tourism, the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) and the FIA ??announced the launch of the Sports Tourism Awards.
The awards include four categories:
- Most Sustainable Sport Event
- Community Impact in Sports Tourism
- Innovation in Sports Tourism Development
- Outstanding Public-Private Partnerships in Sports Tourism
The initiative builds on the strategic partnership launched in September 2024 between the two organizations, aiming to strengthen synergies in the sectors of tourism, sport and sustainable mobility.
UN Tourism Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili said:
“These awards reflect the growing recognition of sports tourism as a strategic driver of sustainable development, social cohesion and innovation. We are proud to partner with the FIA ??to celebrate the efforts of those who are creating real impact through sport and tourism.”
For his part, FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem underlined:
“Sport and tourism are powerful drivers of economic growth, cultural exchange and community development. With this partnership and the awards, we will not only highlight good practices but also inspire others to create positive change.”
Sports tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors in the world, with its market reaching $609 billion in 2023 and estimated to reach $2.3 trillion by 2032. The new awards aim to highlight examples that are shaping the future of the industry.
Nominations are now open for UN Tourism members, FIA members and other bodies active in the sports tourism sector.
