The Municipality of Western Mani has given the “green light” to the production company Heretic for the filming of the international film “Sweetsick” in three characteristic locations of the Municipality: Kardamyli, Petrovouni and Trachila. The location concession permit is valid until mid-November, giving Mani a leading role in the creation of a project that is expected to attract international interest.
This is a major production with a large crew of approximately 100 people and a leading actress who has won an Oscar twice, an element that, as was said at the relevant Municipal Council meeting, strengthens the prestige and dynamic of the film’s presence in the region.
In the script, Greece is the backdrop for the climax of the story, as the heroine arrives in a quiet seaside village, returns to her hometown, experiences an intense and ambivalent reunion with her mother, and ultimately seeks redemption at sea. This is a scene that, according to the creators, captures her existential transformation and leaves an open, almost poetic ending.
The production will use municipal spaces to support filming, including parking lots, municipal facilities and access points to coastal and mountainous areas. Heretic committed to complying with all safety, environmental protection and legal procedures, as well as to promptly inform residents at every point where there will be activity.
During the discussion at the municipal council, it was pointed out that hosting major film producers is an opportunity for cultural promotion and tourism promotion of Mani. It was also requested that emphasis be placed on preserving the natural environment, collaborating with local businesses and ensuring that the area is mentioned in the film’s titles.
