In the heart of Ancient Olympia, thousands of runners from Greece and abroad filled the streets on November 29 and 30, enthusiastically marking the Olympia Marathon 2025. The combination of sports, participation, and culture created a festive two-day celebration for the city and its residents.
Nearly 1,000 athletes from Greece and many foreign countries took part in the Marathon, Half Marathon, 10 km, Family Run 3 km, and the 1,000 m race for children and people with disabilities. All finishers received commemorative medals and certificates, while cash prizes were awarded in the main categories. Spectators supported the runners warmly, creating a strongly festive atmosphere along every part of the route.
The Mayor of Ancient Olympia, Aristeidis Panagiotopoulos, stated that the city “filled with life and smiles” and emphasized that the event showcased internationally the values of sportsmanship and peace.
The Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Dimitris Kostarias, said: “The success was great and is owed to the runners, volunteers, and supporters.” Vasileios Blesios, Member of the Olympia Marathon Organizing Committee, added: “Participation tripled and the event was significantly upgraded,” while Haris Spiliopoulos, President of the Association ‘Olympia Marathon,’ highlighted: “The large participation and the high level of the two-day event confirm the strength of the institution.”
The Olympia Marathon 2025 left a strong positive impact on the region and the event itself, with the Organizing Committee setting the next date for 2026, aiming for further growth and international visibility.
The event was organized by the “Olympia Marathon” Association, in cooperation with the Region of Western Greece, the Municipality of Ancient Olympia, Tsomokos Communications, the Chamber of Ilia, and the Northern Peloponnese SEGAS Regional Union, under the auspices of the International Olympic Academy and in accordance with World Athletics regulations.
