The rapid rise of the global Indian wedding market is expected to soon lead to events with budgets approaching $1 billion, according to Bunyat Ozpak, co-founder of Inventum Global and the International MICE & Wedding Forum.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Ozpak described Indian weddings as a huge market, stressing the importance for countries and destinations investing in wedding tourism to claim a larger share. As he noted, this is a multi-billion-dollar pool, with budgets increasing in parallel with the growth of the Indian economy.
He placed particular emphasis on per-capita spending, where Indian weddings surpass every other form of tourism. In mass tourism, per-capita spending is around $1,000. In Indian weddings, depending on the budget, we have seen averages of $10,000, $20,000, and even $30,000 per person, he said.
According to Ozpak, families in India aim to provide their children with the best possible weddings, with the budgets of wealthy families continually rising. Recently, a very wealthy Indian family spent $800 million on a wedding. We will see even larger amounts; soon we will be talking about $1 billion weddings, he emphasized.
Turkey is emerging as one of the most popular destinations for Indian weddings. Ozpak attributed this preference to luxury hotels, high-quality services, organized transportation, favorable climate, and advanced technical capabilities in sound, lighting, and decoration. Turkeys hotel infrastructure is top-level for wedding events, he noted, adding that requests from Indians living outside India are also increasing.
As for the most popular destinations, Indian families mainly prefer Antalya, Bodrum, and Istanbul, while for smaller-scale weddings with fewer guests, Cappadocia is also particularly appealing.
