A significant outreach activity for the tourism promotion of Pieria was successfully carried out between 6 and 8 May, with the hosting of five tour operators from abroad, specifically from Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden.
This organized “fam trip” (familiarization trip) was carried out by the Pierian Tourism Development and Promotion Organization (POTAP) in collaboration with the Thessaloniki Convention Bureau (T.C.B.)”, within the framework of the T.C.B.’s “Connect Tourism and Travel Event 2025”.
With the common goal of promoting the destination ”Olympus Riviera”, POTAP once again joined forces with the ”Thessaloniki Convention Bureau” to present the rich tourism product of Pieria.
This action is part of the broader strategic plan of P.O.T.A.P. to promote Pieria as a four-season destination, focusing on alternative forms of tourism.
The tourism agents were welcomed on Tuesday, May 6, by the Deputy Governor of Pieria, Ms. Sofia Mavridou, who stated: “Pieria has an excellent tourist identity that combines nature, culture, history, religiosity, flavors, and experiences. Our goal is to strengthen extroversion and cultivate partnerships that lead to sustainable tourism development. Through these familiarization trips, we enable tourism professionals to personally get to know the potential of our place and include them in their programs. The Regional Unit of Pieria will continue to dynamically support P.O.T.A.P. actions. which contribute to the diversification of the tourism product and the promotion of Pieria as a destination of authentic experience and quality hospitality”.
In addition to the Deputy Governor Ms. Mavridou, the tour operators had substantive discussions with the President of the Pierian Tourism Development and Promotion Organization (POTAP) Mr. Giorgos Karalis, the Deputy Mayor for Tourism and Culture of the Municipality of Katerini and Member of the Board of Directors of POTAP Ms. Elina Diamantopoulou, the Deputy Mayor for Tourism of the Municipality of Pydna-Kolindros Ms. Maria Navrozidou and the Members of the Board of Directors of POTAP Ms. Afroditi Bellou and Mr. Dimitris Topalides, regarding the promotion of the destination and the possibilities of collaborations.
The hospitality program was designed with special care and diligence by the Director of the Pierian Tourism Development and Promotion Organization, Mr. Vasilios Dimou, with the aim of offering guests an experiential experience that captures the multidimensional tourist character of the place.
During their stay, the tour operators visited Olympus, the mythical mountain of the gods, where they learned about the possibilities of mountaineering and nature tourism, traditional villages, such as Paleos Panteleimonas, with an emphasis on architecture, local gastronomy and authentic hospitality, religious and archaeological monuments such as ancient Pydna and the Macedonian tombs in Korinos, the Permanent Paleontological Exhibition of the “Mastodon” of Neokaesarea, coasts and coastal areas of all three Municipalities of the prefecture, where the prospects for soft tourism development and marine tourism were presented, local wineries and agrotourism businesses, highlighting the gastronomic wealth of Pieria.
