Collaboration with TUI to promote Thessaloniki and Lemnos

The Greek government, in collaboration with the TUI Group, the regions of Central Macedonia and North Aegean, as well as the municipalities of Thessaloniki and Lemnos, is examining further tourism development for both destinations. The aim is to promote Thessaloniki as a city break destination throughout the year and Lemnos as a new island destination for the summer season.

To this end, the TUI management carried out a two-day visit to Lemnos and Thessaloniki, on Thursday 15 and Friday 16 May, during which meetings and visits were held to important points in each region, with the participation of institutional representatives of the government and local authorities.

The TUI Group delegation included Mr. Sebastian Ebel, Group CEO and the members of the TUI Executive Committee, Mr. Peter Kr?ger and Mr. Thomas Ellerbeck. On the Greek side, the meetings were attended by the Minister of State, Mr. Akis Skertsos, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ms. Anna Karamanli, the Mayors of Thessaloniki and Lemnos, Mr. Stelios Angeloudis and Ms. Eleonora Georgas, the Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism, Ms. Vicky Hatzivassiliou, the Prefect of Lemnos, Mr. Apostolos Koutsoyiannis, the Secretary General of Tourism Policy and Development, Ms. Vasiliki Koutsoukou, the Secretary General of the Hellenic Tourism Organization (EOT), Mr. Andreas Fiorentinos, as well as representatives of Fraport and the Thessaloniki Port Authority.

During the visit, the possibility of developing combined hospitality packages for Thessaloniki, including cruises and excursions to nearby destinations, was discussed. The group also discussed the tourism potential of Lemnos and how the development of new tourist accommodations that meet the standards and expectations of TUI’s international customers can open up new economic opportunities for the island.

The extension of the tourist season to 12 months and the promotion and development of new tourist destinations in Greece are common goals of the Greek government, local authorities, and the TUI Group, the world’s leading tourism organization covering the entire tourism value chain. In this context, both sides agreed to make a systematic and coordinated effort to achieve these goals.
