Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was briefed on plans by OTE, a member of the Telekom group, to carry out investments worth 3.0 billion euros to expand the optic fibre and 5G networks in Greece by 2027, during his meeting on Wednesday with Telekom CEO Timotheus H?ttges, ANA reports.
According to government sources, H?ttges reaffirmed Telekom’s commitment to continue investing in Greece and expressed satisfaction over the good cooperation with the Greek government. The meeting also examined the broader progress in Greece’s digitalisation and the development of the infrastructure required for the telecommunication needs of a modern, high-technology economy. There was also a discussion on government initiatives to expand high-speed broadband connections, such as the Gigabit voucher for households and businesses.
In a brief dialogue before TV cameras, Telekom’s CEO praised Greece’s progress in this area and told Mitsotakis that Greece was now “ahead of Germany in digitalisation”, while underlining that a digital economy was essential in order to have a competitive environment able to generate prosperity for future generations.
