Volos was at the epicenter of the digital revolution in agritourism

Volos was at the epicenter of the digital revolution in agritourism, hosting the second stage of Agroxenia’s collaboration with the Hellenic-Italian Chamber of Thessaloniki, within the framework of the European program DigAccessAgrotourism.

The event emphasized the use of digital technology as a tool for sustainable development and extroversion, the transformation of agritourism businesses into dynamic entities with an identity and added value, as well as the promotion of the agritourism product as a lever for development and experience for the modern traveler. Targeted presentations highlighted the strategies that are transforming the way in which the Greek countryside can attract today’s “smart visitor”, with examples of best international practices and inspiration from the Italian experience.

The Deputy Regional Governor for Digital Governance of Thessaly, Yiannis Anastasiou, stressed that the development of agrotourism is a strategic choice with great prospects, as Thessaly has all the comparative advantages: authentic natural landscape, historical and cultural heritage, rich gastronomy and developing wine production. As he underlined, “the region can develop into a model agrotourism destination, combining nature, people and tradition, creating authentic experiences that strengthen the local economy and make the visitor repeat.”

In turn, tourism entrepreneur and member of the Magnesia Chamber of Commerce, Thekla Kammenou, pointed out that the collaboration between Agroxenia and the Hellenic-Italian Chamber for the digital empowerment of agritourism is an important step, especially for Pelion, where the first efforts at agritourism development can gain extroversion and international visibility, leveraging the primary sector and local products, such as apples, chestnuts and olive oil.

Marco Della Puppa, Secretary General of the Hellenic-Italian Chamber of Commerce, underlined the importance of networking and the exchange of know-how, noting that “the presence of the Region confirms support for efforts for a digitally upgraded agritourism”. Accordingly, Eleni Karaiskou from Agroxenia highlighted that the collaboration through the DigAccessAgrotourism program offers new dynamics to rural tourism, making it more sustainable, resilient and welcoming for all.

Finally, the event in Volos proved that the synergy of local and European actors can transform Greek agrotourism into an extroverted, innovative and high added value tourism product. Similar conferences will follow throughout Greece, strengthening Agroxenia’s network and paving the way for an agrotourism that respects nature and tradition, but speaks the language of the future.
