Aria Hotels in a development phase – The concept of “quite luxury” and the new hotel in Thirasia

With a competitive advantage based on the offer of experiences, the utilization of historic and traditional properties in Greece and abroad, and boutique, authentic Greek hospitality infused with elements of luxury in the spirit of slow travel and privacy, Aria Hotels, a subsidiary of the prominent Libra Group of the Logothetis family, is entering a growth phase 15 years after its founding.

The latest addition to its Greek portfolio—which is expanding through a mixed model of management and ownership of boutique hotels and villas in “discerning” destinations—is a luxurious villa in Anavyssos.

The Attican Villa & Estate, managed and operated by Aria Hotels, is located on an 8.5-acre estate and began operations in July 2025 with already promising demand. The property includes four bedrooms and can accommodate eight guests.

Surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, and a lush organic garden, the villa evokes the atmosphere of a farmhouse. Aria Hotels’ aim is to present through the Attican Villa a model concept of an agrotourism-style villa in Attica.

At the same time, the company offers activity packages complementing the accommodation, focusing on gastronomy and wine-tasting experiences. A new experience package was recently added, featuring a day trip to Thebes, where guests, in collaboration with a local olive mill, participate in olive harvesting and take home the oil they produce.

The Attican Villa is geared toward short-stay visitors to Athens seeking privacy and contact with nature outside the city center, while remaining close to it, as well as near the airport, the archaeological site of Sounio, and the sea.

The villa caters to leisure guests but is also suitable for events and corporate gatherings. It even includes a themed “Cellar” space that, besides hosting wine-tasting sessions, can serve as a venue for professional meetings.

The “Quiet Luxury” Concept

“Experiences are our competitive advantage,” said Alexandros Alexatos, Marketing Manager of Aria Hotels, during an event held on Thursday at The Attican Villa & Estate. The hospitality concept, he explained, “reflects the character of Aria Hotels, which emphasizes the environment, culture, and authentic Greek hospitality with touches of luxury. We call it quiet luxury.”

New Hotel in Thirasia Opening in May

Under the same concept, one of the first boutique hotels being built on the unspoiled island of Thirasia, the Duchess, is expected to open in May 2026. The hotel will feature 12 luxury suites with panoramic views of the Caldera, an infinity pool, a restaurant, and a spa.

In November, the restaurant of the neoclassical Athens 1890 Hotel & Spa, located in Agia Irini Square, is also set to open. This property was added to the Aria collection in October, under a management agreement.

Focusing on Very Small Islands

The philosophy of slow travel lies at the heart of the brand. For this reason, during its current growth phase, Aria Hotels is seeking opportunities for new hotels in discerning destinations both in Greece and abroad.

“By managing and restoring historic buildings—which in many cases had remained closed—we breathe new life into their destinations,” noted Mr. Alexatos. “We look for areas with significant cultural value that also have historical properties awaiting revival.”

Within Greece, this approach is leading the brand to explore small, remote islands that have not yet been developed for tourism, provided suitable properties are found that align with its philosophy.

Aria Hotels may also leverage innovative electric eVTOL helicopters to provide transportation to its properties even on the most remote islands, becoming one of the first hospitality companies in the world—and the first in Greece—to offer this service.

“We are looking for islands similar to Kimolos,” explained Mr. Alexatos, referring to the location of Aria Hotels’ first property, The Windmill. “Islands with historical depth and in a developing stage,” he added. The brand also finds opportunities attractive in mainland Greece, especially through the lens of sports tourism.

“We are in a growth phase and have made great strides in recent years. Our goal is to link our name with the concept of distinctiveness in hospitality,” he emphasized.

Two New Hotels in Latin America and the Caribbean

In the same spirit, Aria Hotels is expanding into Latin America and the Caribbean, where it is preparing two new owned, historically significant hotels, currently undergoing restoration with respect for their traditional character.

The new hotel in the historic old town of Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, will be called Aria Santa Maria. With 12 rooms, it is scheduled to open in April 2026. The property, a 16th-century building located in the historic center, once hosted Diego Columbus, the son of Christopher Columbus. The hotel’s name refers to the Santa Maria, one of Columbus’s ships.

The second hotel, located in Cartagena, Colombia, in a former Spanish gathering house, is expected to open in 2027. It will feature 33 rooms, a spa, and a rooftop.

Here too, the brand plans to maintain a Greek element, as both hotels will host the first Greek restaurants in their respective regions.

The Background

Aria Hotels owns a collection of over 50 hotels, villas, and seaside residences in Greece and abroad. In Greece, its portfolio includes distinctive properties in Athens, Crete, the Cyclades, the Sporades, Epirus, Evia, the Peloponnese, the Dodecanese, and the Ionian Islands.

The brand began on Kimolos with its first property, The Windmill, housed in the oldest windmill in the Cyclades, recognizing that modern travelers seek more than accommodation—they seek unique experiences.

Its journey continued in Chania with the Alcanea Boutique Hotel in the Old Port, featuring eight rooms.

In Kardamyli, Aria manages the Patrick Leigh Fermor House, one of the most beautiful and historic homes in Greece. The property can host up to 10 guests and operates from May to September, while during the rest of the year, it is under the management of the Benaki Museum.

Also notable in its collection is La Divina, located in the former conservatory of Maria Callas.
