Christmas backgrounds: gingerbread cookies and hot chocolate shot on a rustic wooden table. The composition is on the left of a horizontal frame, leaving useful copy space for text and/or logo on the right. A Christmas tree and string lights are out of focus in the background. Predominant colors are red, green, and brown.
On the occasion of the holiday season, YouGov Profiles (Focus Bari – YouGov’s Affiliate Partner in Greece) presents an overview of the key characteristics shaping Greeks’ attitudes during the festive period.
The survey results show that…
- Three out of five Greeks (60%) say they enjoy inviting people into their homes, opting for warm and authentic moments of togetherness. Even more (76%) consider it important to spend time with their family. The holidays, therefore, are an opportunity for reconnection and quality time with our loved ones.
- 66% consider spending time outdoors to be of primary importance. At the same time, more than one in two (53%) say they feel comfortable in social situations. Greeks seem to be seeking a balance between sociability and whatever makes them feel good.
- More than half of Greeks (54%) enjoy discovering new hobbies or interests, while the vast majority (79%) particularly value activities that help relieve stress. Perhaps, then, the holidays are the ideal occasion to engage in things that bring us pleasure and calm.
- Our research consistently shows that melomakarona remain the most popular sweet choice among Greeks at Christmas. As for Saint Basil (Agios Vasilis), the majority see him as a symbol of joy and a beautiful story for children — and why not for us adults as well?
