Corfu Chandris Hotel & Villas and Dassia Chandris Hotel & Spa won the international environmental prize Green Key for the sixth consecutive year in 2016. Both hotels were distinguished for their sensitivity in matters concerning environmental protection as well as their commitment to carry the message of love for nature to their customers, suppliers and partners. The hotels have a total of 525 rooms, including 28 bungalows and 36 villas, within a green, calm and relaxing environment of about 80 acres. They offer restaurants, bars, an Italian trattoria, entertainment and TV rooms, 4 swimming pools (one for children), tennis courts, 5×5, kids club, shops, staffed and equipped spa and gym, a beach suitable for all water sports and a conference center.
Greek tourism industry executives express concern but also cautious optimism, as bookings for Greece slowed down lately, while competitor countries such as Spain and Portugal, are already full. Cretan Travel Agents Association president Michael Vlatakis believes that “last minute reservations shall prevail and Greece will hopefully enjoy a good season with tranquility and no unpleasant contingencies.” Vice President of the Pan-Cretan Association of Hotel Managers Dimitris Koumparakis and other local experts also share this view, adding that “Crete expects a lot from the Russian market this year as long, as visa related issues are resolved.”
The City of Tempe approved its annual tourism promotion program focusing on its special morphology of mountains, valleys and sea, its excellent local products, traditional villages and enchanting coastline. The program includes creating and producing thematic brochures and CDs, reprinting tourist guides in Greek, English, Russian and German, participating in international tourist exhibitions and selective advertising in domestic and international media along with complementary promotional activities and public relations.
The South Kynouria region approved its annual tourism promotion program which includes the Tsakonian Festival. The Festival features various events (competitions, exhibitions, movies, plays, dance performances etc.) as well as a traditional cooking competition for amateurs and professionals focused on dishes based on the traditional “Tsakonian eggplant”. The program also includes the promotion of climbing parks in South Kynouria the Tyrou diving Park and the launching of a relevant tourism web portal.
Halkidiki Tourism Organization participated for the 10th consecutive year in the international TTR Tourism Fair held in Bucharest, Romania from 25 to 28 February 2016. Besides the countless beauties of Chalkidiki, visitors were especially interested in the “Aristotle year” of 2016 -2017 which celebrates globally the anniversary of 2400 years since the birth of the great Ancient Greek philosopher and scholar. Halkidiki Tourism Organization was represented by its president Gregory Tassios, accompanied by numerous local hoteliers and travel agents.
