American tourists receipts in Greece plummet by €222 million during 2016

Greek main opposition New Democracy Tourism Sector head Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas tabled a question in the Greek Parliament requesting visible and measurable data on the results of the Greek Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura’s successive visits in the United States.

The ND MP noted that between January – November 2016, travel receipts from tourists from the USA plummeted by 222 million which represents a reduction of 23.7%.

Mr. Konsolas stressed that an equally negative impact is recorded in the cruise sector, where many passengers, not coincidentally, are also Americans.

At a time when the number of international cruise passengers goes up for 2017, cruise ship arrivals in Greece have dropped by 22.7% from 4,290 in 2016 to 3,316 in 2017.
