Update: Heat wave shuts down Athens Acropolis and other sites until Sunday

The Greek capital’s most famous archaeological monument, the Acropolis, will be closed from Thursday to Sunday due to high temperatures, Tornos News reports.

Forecasts by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service said that temperatures in Athens are expected to reach 42 Celsius (107.6F), prompting authorities to close the Acropolis, as well as Ancient Theater of Dionysus at its foot, in order to protect the public and staff from the heat.

The last entrance tickets to both sites were issued by 14.30 and the sites were closed at 15.00
