Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrisochoidis was on the Ionian island of Zakynthos on Saturday to resolve problems concerning the understaffing of the island’s police headquarters and other emergency services, ANA reports.
“Our resolve is to restore Zakynthos to normality as regards security and fighting crime,” the minister announced after a series of meetings with the heads of the island’s security forces to discuss their problems held on Saturday morning.
He said the visit will focus on fire protection, as well as reinforcing the island’s police force with an additional 20 officers from September, bringing back 10 police officers currently detached to Evros and other islands. He also announced a plan to fight crime, especially organized crime.
