Academics get Wi-Fi access on the Acropolis

Academics and students visiting the Acropolis can now benefit from free Wi-Fi after the extension of eduroam (education roaming), an access service developed for the international research and education community.

The project was completed by the National Research and Technology Network (GRNET) in collaboration with the Acropolis Restoration Service, which designed and supervised the installation of the advanced Wi-Fi infrastructure that allows wireless Internet access.

Access details

Visitors can simply use their university access details or “credentials” to get Wi-Fi on the Acropolis. The GRNET is also working on the creation of Internet applications providing details and information on the archaeological site.

Eduroam is part of the GÉANT network interconnecting Europe’s National Research and Education Networks (NRENs). It bridges over 50 million users at 10,000 European institutions that support research in areas such as energy, the environment, space and medicine.
