The Municipality of East Mani has abolished the Pay As You Throw Waste Management Fee on the turnover of catering and hospitality businesses, revoking its previous decision to establish the Fee.
The decision, published in Tornos News, had included, among other provisions, for catering establishments a rate of 2% on annual turnover, for accommodation businesses providing full meals and camping 1.5% on annual turnover, and for accommodation providing only breakfast, 1% on annual turnover.

In her statement, Deputy Mayor and Acting Mayor Ms. Georgia Lyrothoni, during the session discussing the issue, said the following: According to the data from our Service, waste production increases during months of high tourism activity in the wider area, with catering and tourism businesses contributing the largest amount of waste to the management system.
For these reasons, our Municipality implemented the Pay As You Throw program for the year 2025, aiming for fair and transparent charging per unit of waste produced and in accordance with our modern legal obligations.
This program applied to catering and hospitality businesses throughout our Municipality, which, in addition to municipal fees for the square meters of the premises they occupy, were required to pay the Waste Management Fee Pay As You Throw.
However, although this system was fair and is applied in almost all of Europe, it was not adopted by the majority of our Municipalitys business owners.
Following the above, and because we are legally and ethically obliged that everyone pays what they must, I propose the abolition of the Waste Management Fee Pay As You Throw, and that these revenues be collected through the square meters of catering and hospitality businesses, which are also liable for the tourist accommodation fee, by increasing the coefficient of cleanliness fees, which will be determined based on the total square meters.

Meanwhile, the Municipality of Zagori (photo) has proceeded with the procedures for the implementation of the Special Cultural Fee of the Municipality of Zagori, exactly as provided by the legislation and procedures established by the Ministry of Interior, as published in Tornos News.
This is a special cultural fee in favor of the Municipality of Zagori, which constitutes a cultural landscape included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, amounting to 0.75 per day per room or apartment of businesses located within the Municipalitys limits.
The businesses subject to the Fee are mainly hotel accommodations, furnished rental rooms and apartments, properties available through short-term rentals, self-catering accommodations, and tourist furnished villas.
