The Snow Queen opera in Athens Onassis Cultural Center

Snow Queen, one of Hans Christian Andersen’s best-known tales has been turned into an opera to warm the hearts of children and all those who remain young at heart.

The musician, director and Associate Artistic Director of the Greek National Opera, Thodoris Abazis, has written an opera based on Hans Christian Andersen’s much-loved fairytale.  His aim is to familiarize children with opera “so they will come to love the genre“, as he puts it and adds:  “The productuon flirts with the musical, too, but it was essentally written to acquaint a young audience with opera and its conventions.”

A tale of loyalty, love and growing up comes to life at the OCC in an original musical spectacle for young and old in the run-up to Christmas.
