The song ‘Utopian Land’ performed by ARGO band was chosen to represent Greece to Eurovision 2016 contest to be held in Stockholm from 10 to 14 May.
It includes Greek and English lyrics and refers to the refugee issue combining hip hop and folk music.
“We are the rise in the rising sun/ dance with us and have some fun/ We are the rise in the rising sun/join with us for a Utopian Land” says the refrain.
The song was chosen directly by public broadcasting network ERT bypassing this time the usual contest procedure and offering the entry to Argo. As ERT president Dionysis Tsaknis said, they wanted Greece to be represented by a song that will send a message to Europe about what Greek people are facing now.
It will be performed by Christina Lachana, Maria Venetikidou, Vladimiros Sofianidis, Kostas Topouzis, Ilias Kesidis en Alekos Papadopoulos.
Greece has won the Eurovision Song Contest once, in 2005, and has qualified to every Grand Final since the current system was introduced. Last year Maria Elena Kyriakou represented Greece with the song One Last Breath.
